This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My Kindergarten through 2nd grade students are students with special needs. They are receiving special education services due to auditory or visual processing deficits, ADHD, or Autism. They are all working below grade level expectations in all academic areas. Many are English language learners as well which can, at times, add a challenge to their academic progress. A majority of the students come from neighborhoods that have high crime rates and low socioeconomic status. Despite their challenges, my students continue to have a positive outlook for a bright future.

My Project

We have been very fortunate to be gifted with licenses to a highly engaging reading website that allows our struggling readers to gain foundational reading skills through a game-like environment. However, students need to turn up the volume in order to fully experience the website. With approximately 5-10 students at one time on the computers, it has become very distracting.

We're asking for headphones to use during our technology time so that we can maximize the learning and minimize the distractions.

With the purchase of the classroom set of headphones our students can experience the wonderful sights AND sounds that this reading website, as well as other technology learning games, have to offer.
