I currently teach an EIP (Early Intervention Program) class, which is designed to intervene with students at risk of not performing at grade level. Most of my students are learning English, which impacts their learning styles and therefore, my teaching methods.
My students are conscientious, hard-working and extremely appreciative of every opportunity they are offered.
I strive to offer a hands-on, student-centered classroom where my students feel nurtured and encouraged to learn. As English Language Learners, it's important for my students to be immersed in a print-rich environment.
My Project
I organize literacy centers during our reading and writing block to engage students and provide small group instruction. I currently have multiple centers including a guided reading group, spelling center, write-the-room center, a computer and a listening center. During literacy centers, my students use headphones to listen to audio books as they follow along with the text. Listening to readings helps my English Language Learners with reading fluency, compression, and pronunciation. We also use headphones at our computer center where students use programs purchased by our district to facilitate learning such as I-Ready, Moby Max, Raz Kids and more.
I’ve been purchasing inexpensive, in-ear headphones from Amazon for the past two years, but they break easily, don’t fit well in children's’ ears and get tangled.
I would LOVE a class set of over-the-ear headphones that would last for years to come!
