My Students

Located in the Nation's capital, the school where I teach serves the needs of a diverse community of students and families. My work is complex as I navigate how to build relationships and community across lines of difference like race, class, language, and country of origin.

As a Language Arts teacher, working with primarily English Learners, my most important task as a teacher rests on my ability to fully articulate the power, complexity, and impact of language.

To communicate is to learn to advocate for oneself and one's community, and that reality is the cornerstone for what I do.

My students learn the importance of vulnerability as they develop their capacity to communicate through reading, writing, listening, and speaking. No experience is more humbling or profound than when a student's potential has been fully realized through their dedication to themselves and their pursuit of knowledge and self-expression.

My Project

While teaching in a pandemic, the successful integration of technology is essential in a successful classroom. Whether devices are used at home or school, students use online learning platforms to enhance their educational experience, and these activities are often noisy.

I'm requesting 100 JustJamz Kidz Earbud Headphones so every student can receive their own pair.

Students will use these headphones with my partner teacher and me across all academic subjects. When we are all working with technology or using devices during independent work, they must stay focused and minimize distractions. If we need to pivot to virtual instruction, these earbuds have built-in microphones that will make distance learning much easier for kids and teachers.

Earbuds will ensure that each student can only hear what is happening on their device, providing the best experience possible. I am also making sure to request some extra devices because, if you've ever worked with third graders, inevitably, a pair or two will go missing.
