My Project

First graders are fascinating to teach because they love to learn; my challenge while working with seven year olds, is keeping their attention and engaging each student in different ways. We live in a rural Title l school district, with a majority receiving Free and Reduced-price Lunches. Some of kids' most positive experiences are at school.

Students need hands-on engaging experiences to create excitement and a love for learning.

I want to foster a love of learning and integrate problem-solving skills, logic, and creativity. There is a wide range of learners in my class, including gifted students, students with physical and mental learning difficulties, and students receiving Speech and Languages services. Every student in every school should have the opportunity to experience new technology tools geared toward 21st century learning. It is important to try new ways for students to excel because every boy and girl in my class is unique!

Information is the key to success, but not everyone understands it in the same way. When everyone in the classroom is using headphones, they are able to select the learning option that suits them best. They can also work at their own pace without disturbing those around them. We use headphones for individual reading and math lessons, using Epic and Zearn. This allows students to have access to multiple stories and lessons, accommodating the wide range of comprehension that exists in a first grade classroom.

Headphones help keep all students on task and encourage them to pay attention and interact with the teacher because they can hear every word.

Our class is fortunate enough to be a 1-1 iPad environment. It can be noisy and distracting to students to listen to audio speakers when there are multiple devices in the classroom. Headphones help the student focus on their assignments
