I work with thirty eager and diverse learners every day. My students are a diverse group of students that come from a variety of different cultures.
Over half of my students are English language learners and all of my students receive free lunch at school.
Many of my students are refugees, homeless, or come from families of generational poverty. In addition, my students often experience trauma and have little access to educational resources outside of school.
The resources in my classroom often help them to learn valuable life skills including learning to read and write in English, express their emotions and meet high stakes state standards.
My Project
Students will use their headphones on a daily basis in my classroom. My students love listening to reading and hearing their writing being read aloud to them. The headphones from this project will allow my students to each have their own pair of headphones so all students can listen and learn at the same time.
The fidgets, stress balls and calming manipulatives will help students to develop coping skills in the classroom when they are feeling stressed, or anxious.
In my classroom, when students are not feeling like they are ready to learn, they excuse themselves and they are allowed to sit in the "Peace Corner." The "Peace Corner" is a place where students can go and relax, while they get their body and brain ready to learn again. The materials from this project will give students something to manipulate while they transition from a break to learning with the class.
