Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Remember that clay project you made in third grade that still sits on your parents' mantel? Help make our art room come alive with 3-D materials! Clay and glazes would allow 24 classrooms of students to create ceramic projects this year.
My art students are inner city kids who love to use their creativity on a daily basis.
Most live in the same neighborhood and receive free school lunch because of low income status. Not much money at home shouldn't prevent them from being given the chance to receive a world class art education though! Many of my students are very active and hands-on and respond really well to clay. Since our school promotes a college going atmosphere, I want students to be able to create diverse art projects that will prepare them to be life-long art enthusiasts!
My Project
These materials will help create a ceramics program for an entire school. Each student will be able to sculpt and form original, age appropriate clay projects. Next they will learn how the firing process actually changes the composition of the clay into bisqueware. Finally, they will experience the creative process of adding colored glazes to their clay sculptures. Imagine how excited each student will be to bring home a finished ceramic piece.
We have a kiln, an experienced ceramics teacher, and 500 students who love to make 3-D art.
Now all we need is our help to get supplies! Please join us in making our ceramics program a reality.
