Our program in Harlem focuses on music literacy, performance and a life long love of music. We are trying to create ensembles to show our community how great our young scholars truly are. We will be performing throughout the year with the repertoire we learn and need the best gear possible to do it!
Our students in Harlem are growing up under difficult circumstances.
In an urban community with mostly low-income families where their home-life is filled with uncertainty and often fear for what comes next. Most of our students find school as the one place they can count on for structure, support and growth, because our amazing teaching staff cares a great deal about them. We are working hard to create well-rounded citizens and equip them with skills to better themselves and. Empower their community. I have been constantly amazed at the willingness to work hard and push oneself to learn new concepts and challenge oneself in this neighborhood. Young musicians in Harlem are New York's best kept secret and we want to show everyone how great our scholars are. And we need your help!
I am asking for nine RealFeel 2-Sided Speed and Workout Drum Pads, four Folding Music Stands, two Wood Maracas, a Ratchet Effect, one Frog Guiro, and a set of Double-Headed Wood/Rubber Glockenspiel Mallets for our elementary school percussion ensemble. My students will be using these materials both in a general music class during the day, as well as during one of several after school ensembles. We will be rehearsing weekly so we may perform as much as possible to maintain our reputation as a great place of learning. Our young musicians will use these materials to learn and perform rhythm patterns in lessons where percussion drives the learning, helping us to decode, read and create to our musical heart's content.
Many districts do not need the assistance of donations, and many schools have offered music classes for a long time.
In a neighborhood of such historical greatness and also such dire need for art and expression, this project is exactly what our community needs. This program is unique in Harlem and we want to see it grow and reach more young scholars as we spend more time learn, playing and loving music. Our neighborhood, our school and our classroom need your help to make Harlem more musical
