Hands-On Science Really Sucks Without a New Vacuum!

Help me give my students more of a hands-on science experience with microscopes and a weather station. We often make a mess during science and need a vacuum to clean up our learning!

My Students

Our students are excited about coming to school and work really hard. We have a super fast paced day with lots of learning! They are highly motivated and do well in our intense daily rotations. Overall, we create a positive learning environment for our students.

Several of our students are on the autism spectrum and others have other learning challenges.

We are aware of these students' needs and want to provide them with​ all the best opportunities while they are at school, to encourage a successful life ahead of them.

Our students come from a diverse socioeconomic background. They are excited and willing to learn new things, with some students excelling and others struggling. Our students work hard and help each other during class.

My Project

I teach science to the entire sixth grade and we go in depth with all the new standards. I have many microscope slides, but no microscopes for the students to view the slides. The weather station will not only help us predict the weather, but understand how the weather works better. We learn about density, and the density cubes will let the students predict and explore the density more in depth.

With all of our science experiments, my classroom gets messy- especially when we make Oobleck!

Having a vacuum cleaner in my classroom will help us get the classroom ready for the next group of students and help the custodians out too!

I have also requested playground balls because we do not have recess equipment. It is important to keep the kids active at recess so they can come back being more focused to learn. I also added a few rewards to motivate students who need a little bit of an incentive.
