My Students

My students are curious, energetic, and ready to engage with the world of science—if only they’re given the chance to do science, not just read about it.

They come from diverse backgrounds, and many don't have access to science resources at home. In our classroom, they are hungry for opportunities to explore and experiment with hands-on activities. What they need most is the ability to work with real materials that bring abstract scientific concepts to life.

This project will provide molecular model kits that allow students to build molecules with their hands, reinforcing the structure and function of the world around them—atom by atom. Instead of memorizing formulas or looking at diagrams in textbooks, students will be able to physically manipulate atoms and bonds, assembling molecules like water, glucose, ethanol, and other more exciting molecules.

By engaging in this hands-on activity, students will gain a much deeper, lasting understanding of molecular geometry, bonding, polarity, chemical reactions, and intermolecular forces. This tactile experience directly supports students who learn best by doing—especially kinesthetic and visual learners.

With these model kits, learning becomes active and experiential, not passive. Students will:

1) Collaborate in small groups to build and explain molecular structures.

2) Visualize complex 3D concepts that are often hard to grasp on paper.

3) Explore how structure relates to function in chemistry.

4) Gain confidence in science by doing, touching, and experimenting.

5) These model kits will be used across multiple units—from chemical bonding to reactions and solutions—and across multiple years, benefiting hundreds of students. This is an investment in hands-on science that will pay off for years to come.
