My Students
Genuine kindness and a compassionate community are the words that come to mind instantly when reflecting on my group of learners this year. Our school is nestled in a valley with majestic surrounding mountains.
Students have a connection to nature unlike many other schools.
We help families cut wood or harvest crops whenever we aren't in school. We work hard both at school and at home. Being that we are in a very rural setting, high speed internet is not something we all have at home. For this reason, it is so important that while in school everyone has an opportunity to access technology and explore the all available resources. You will be contributing to the futures of bright, kind, and hard working children who have the work ethic to achieve explosive growth as learners.
My Project
My students are very science oriented. They see the world around them as a source of information and experiences. Some of their most passionate knowledge comes from first hand experiences they have had, some of these from working on family businesses/farms or being out in nature. Nothing can compare to something gained or learned through personal experience. This is what I an hoping to provide my students. A variety of hands on science and engineering activities and projects will both engage/interest their thirsty minds but it will also help prepare the for the heavy science content that is a part of future grades. We currently do a simple machines unit in 3rd grade and the intro to simple machines kit would allow us to expand upon the unit in a big way. Additionally, the robotics and bridge building will draw true connections between content areas and give students real life applications of the science and math concepts covered in class. Finally, the Breakout box is a fun, escape room type activity that will get students thinking and working in teams to accomplish a teacher designed mission. I want my students to see these content areas as more outlets to gain the Sam kind or rich experiences their lives have provided.
