My students are amazing! We have formed a truly caring family within our room. Helpers and growers is what they are. We all help in any way we can. Sometimes it's by being a good friend, giving quiet reminders to one another. Sometimes it's speed walking across the room to help a classmate who dropped a pencil box. We give each other what is needed to grow and prosper both academically and spiritually as individuals. A caring setting allows students to take chances, and that's when the real learning can happen. During whole group work we signal to whoever is up at the board with a thumbs up, letting them know we have their back and can help out if they need it. Students also remind the worker at the board that "you got this", "you can do it" and "believe in yourself". It is enough to cause you to tear up seeing how genuinely caring these young people are being towards one another. I'm lucky to be their teacher.
