My Students

A typical day in our classroom is very busy and at times chaotic! Our classroom is full of energy We enjoy learning, especially when we are able to have hands on activities or we are up and moving. "Tell me and I forget , teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn."- Benjamin Franklin

Our STEM elementary school is a new school this year.

We have combined with another school. Last year our population was primarily Caucasian, but this year we will be an ELL (English Language Learner) school. We are part of a low income school and our students are of every culture and race! I believe our students benefit from our great diversity! The school learns all about differences first hand with in our classrooms. Our new school has been designated as a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) school and this will be my first year teaching my English Language Learners (ELL). I am very excited to learn about the different cultures and also learning about STEM and how to incorporate it into my classroom.

My Project

The resources I have requested will help create a hands on learning environment for all my students especially my English Language Learners. I have asked for a new calendar set that will help enhance my students knowledge about how to use a calendar, but also analyze the weather throughout the month. I have asked for some teacher resources to help enhance my teaching. I want to incorporate STEM as much as I can I found a STEM activity set that my students can use during my literature block after pairing it with a fairy tale. Students will use project based learning to help solve the problem. They will be using the design process to help them. I have also included some items that can be used during literacy stations- the Wiki sticks will help students create words by bending the sticks into letters to create their word.

This project will help enhance the learning of all my students.

STEM activities will create an environment where they will not only be working on critical thinking skills, but also be working on their social skills needed to survive in the real world. Hands on learning will help meet the needs of all my students. I have seen that hands on learning is a great strategy for ELL students. I also think that hands-on learning will make learning fun for all students.
