My Project

My students are some of the bravest and most determined children you will ever meet. Each day, they arrive carrying challenges that can’t always be seen—sensory sensitivities, communication barriers, difficulty regulating emotions, and anxiety around transitions. But they also bring curiosity, humor, determination, and a desire to connect. They want to learn and be understood; they just need tools that truly meet their needs.

The materials requested are not extras they are needed in our classroom.

They are essential supports that allow my students to access learning in meaningful, functional, and empowering ways.

Sensory tools like noise-canceling headphones, weighted lap pads, wobble cushions, and fidgets help students manage overwhelming sounds, physical restlessness, or anxiety. These items help them stay calm, engaged, and present. When a child who once hid under a desk during loud moments can stay with the class because headphones soften the noise—that’s access.

Visual supports such as picture schedules, communication boards, and First/Then cards give students a voice and a clear understanding of expectations. Many of my learners don’t speak yet or struggle to use language in stressful moments. Visuals help reduce frustration and allow them to express what they need. When a student points to a picture to tell me what they want—that’s communication.

Hands-on academic materials—task boxes, manipulatives, leveled readers—make learning concrete and achievable. My students learn best by touching, building, and seeing concepts broken down into clear steps. When a child finally understands a math idea because they can physically build it—that’s learning.
