My Students

My students are diverse, multi-lingual, and motivated. My class setting is inclusive, differentiated, and heterogeneous. We have students from all over the world from China to Mexico. Therefore, we have an array of different languages being spoken at home.

We have students of varying cognitive abilities who may have speech and language impairments and emotional disturbances but without these beautiful differences, my class would not be as special as it is.

My Project

Guided Reading is small group instruction specific to those students' independent reading level. It is a wonderful way to naturally differentiate instruction, give students texts they can access, and foster real life conversations about virtually anything.

In order to adequately implement Guided Reading, teachers need the time carved out in their schedule and a Guided Reading library.

As the Resource Room teacher at my school, my schedule consists of only small groups so finding time to meet with only a few children at a time is, fortunately, not a concern. I am asking for six (6) copies of various I Can Read titles, mainly non-fictional texts about animals. Learning about these animals, in their various habitats, will drive conversation about various communities around the world.
