Students easily lose papers and it would have been frustrated. This makes it difficult to look back at previous lessons taught. Cursive writing includes many mini lessons such as learning how to write strokes and curves. These books help me teach my students to learn proper cursive writing techniques.\r\n\r\nThe enthusiasm on their faces was amazing. They are looking forward to learning how to sign their names. Our classroom book club has brought so much excitement as students share opinions, make predictions, and feel proud choosing books that feel just right for them.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom now looks joyful and engaging. Students are spread out with books during independent reading, eagerly talking about their favorite characters, and rereading familiar stories to become more confident readers. Some students who were once hesitant now cannot wait to read. One child reaches straight for Dog Man every morning, while another proudly reads Junie B Jones aloud to classmates. Tools like the word mapping paddles and mirrors help students better understand sounds and words in a way that feels fun and hands on.\r\n\r\nThe healthy snacks have also made a meaningful difference. With our late lunch time, students are more focused, calmer, and ready to learn throughout the day. Instead of simply practicing isolated skills, students are now engaged in meaningful conversations about stories they genuinely enjoy.\r\n\r\nThe new book sets have helped students build important early literacy skills, including reading fluency, expression, and comprehension. As they read, students practice using character voices, retelling key events, and discussing what is happening in the story. They are also learning how to share their thinking, listen to others, and build on each other's ideas. Decodable readers are an impoortant literacy tool used with my students to help them become independent readers. They help align my teaching using best practices from the science of reading. Decodables help build fluent and accurate readers. They also help build strong foundations in phonics and help achieve confidence. \r\nFor first graders, who are still internalizing the relationships between sounds and letters, this alignment is crucial. Decodable readers allow them to apply newly learned skills immediately and successfully. Instead of guessing from pictures or memorizing predictable patterns, students learn to decode words using systematic strategies.\r\nMy goal is to have a mix of decodable books along with a rich library filled with variuos types of literature. The technology and materials provided—especially the document camera and headphones—have helped students share stories in a meaningful, engaging way. When reading aloud, students can project books clearly so all listeners can follow along, which has strengthened comprehension, discussion, and attention for both the readers and the audience. The headphones have supported focus during small-group and independent literacy activities, allowing students to fully engage with reading tasks.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students most is the opportunity to create and share their own literacy materials. Designing bookmarks, storyboards, posters, and challenges has made reading feel creative and purposeful rather than routine. They are especially motivated knowing their work will be used by other students across the school. Access to Teachers Pay Teachers resources has also been exciting, as it allows students to explore new literacy activities and gives them extra support to bring their ideas to life.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who were once hesitant readers have truly flourished through this project. Some who struggled with confidence now eagerly volunteer to lead read-alouds or explain reading strategies to younger students. Others who benefit from visual and hands-on learning have especially connected with the creative materials and technology, helping them better express their ideas and stay engaged.
