I am a Kindergarten Teacher in Raleigh, NC. I teach 21 very diverse learners. They are all on different social, emotional, and academic levels. These students are very eager to learn. Our book room is very limited and I would love to expand and grow the amount of titles. When a students has a physical book in their hand to practice strategies, it can make all the difference in the world. With new cultures, backgrounds, and languages entering our classroom and school daily, I would love to bring more 21st century books to the forefront.
My Project
These NEW books will help my students reach and exceed grade level benchmarks in reading. Guided Reading is a small group VERY differentiated approach to teaching reading. Guided reading helps foster reading independence, higher comprehension levels, and fluency. These books will help close achievement gaps across different socio-economic groups, cultural backgrounds, and students dealing with language barriers. With these updated books, many of our Spanish speaking students will increase their vocabulary when reading the new nonfiction books! Kindergarten is a very important year for students to get immersed in a text rich environment. I would love these new book sets to help reach all of our students reach their own personal reading goal!
