Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 6th, 7th and 8th graders at a Anthony Saville middle school that has a diverse population of about 1200 students in the northwest area of Las Vegas. I teach physical education along with 2 other PE teachers and a Health teacher. The majority of my students are from middle-income households and from very diverse backgrounds. My students love being physically active and being outdoors. However, many of these students do not have access to equipment outside of school. I try to make opportunities for my students to create projects based on real-world careers in technology and media and also encourage my students to be physically active for at least 60 minutes a day. Our (my) goal is to get some pickleball equipment so that our students can play pickleball during PE class and during after school hours.

My Project

We have already painted 8 regulation pickleball courts on our tennis courts. We already have a few pickleball balls and paddles, so the only thing we are missing are the nets. If we are able to get actual nets, our kids will be able to play real games, not just hitting a ball over a painted line on the ground or a string that we rope across the court. Pickleball is growing so fast in our area among adults and I'd love to get our youth involved. Please consider helping donate a few nets. We (the 3 PE teachers) are very organized and take great care of our equipment. Whatever we get lasts many years because we take pride in having what we think is the best PE program in Las Vegas! Thanks for considering.
