My Project

I am a Speech Language Pathologist providing speech and language therapy/communication intervention across both inclusion and self-contained settings. My students are striving to learn to express themselves effectively in the classroom so that they can effectively access the curriculum. My students are extraordinary individuals who choose to overcome challenges and adversity every time they come into the classroom. Through close collaboration with my students' team of classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, and parents we promote speech and language growth to help our future leaders of tomorrow succeed in both their personal and academic goals.

Until a student has their most basic needs of safety, emotional support, clothing, food, and nutrition met they won't be able to focus on academics.

On our campus, we have discovered that there are students who don't have the ability to have clean and appropriately sized clothing. Since the beginning of COVID we have seen an increase in our student population of families experiencing difficulty getting back on their feet due to various complications they experiences throughout the pandemic. We are going to create a closet with items, such as jeans, leggings, t-shirts, and underwear, ready to be provided for students as we become aware of their needs. This way their clothing, warmth, and comfort needs can be met immediately and not hinder their ability to focus and participate in the classroom.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
