Growing Sharp Students in the School Garden

Help me give my students the materials they need to start a school garden with Pencils that aren't just for writing. When these pencils are too short to sharpen & write with, we can plant them.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students love hands on learning. Our school is a Title I school with 90% of our students from low income homes & they are receiving free and/or reduced breakfast and lunch. The students are very excited about growing their own food and herbs that they will actually be able to taste and share.

My Project

In STEM, we study plant life and what better way than to make learning come to life with a garden tower! The plantable pencils, potting mix, and aerator in this project will allow my students to plant seeds in the classroom and then transplant the plants into the garden tower.

The most exciting part of this STEM activity is the sprout pencils!

Yes, you read that right. These pencils have seeds by the eraser so when they are too short to write with, instead of throwing them away, my students will plant them in the garden tower. Then flowers and herbs will grow! As a bonus, my students will get fresh fruits and veggies to eat from the garden.
