Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My fourth graders are a vibrant, curious, and hardworking group of bilingual learners! They spend their days navigating two languages, building bridges between cultures, and developing into empathetic and understanding individuals. They are at the stage of their educational careers where they are moving from "learning to read" to "reading to learn," and they thrive when they see their own lives, families, traditions and friends reflected in the pages of the books they hold.

My students come to the table with a wide range of reading levels being part of a dual immersion program.

Some are just beginning to tackle their first "big kid" chapter books, while others are ready for complex mysteries and historical fiction. Despite their different starting points, they all share one thing: a desire to get lost in a great story!

With the books in this project, I will be able to offer my bilingual learners diverse chapter books to select from to engage with during their reading group. These books will allow students to grow their confidence and skills as readers, empathy towards others and an overall appreciation and joy for reading.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
