Help me give my students a more conducive group table that will allow lessons to be done together and have direct access to the teacher at all times, while giving students personal space.
Our setting is a place that serves special education students whose needs just aren't met in a traditional school setting. Each student in my class has a wide variety of interests and abilities. We focus on building their life skills and on building positive relationships.
My room is a safe place where these very unique kids know it's okay to make mistakes.
We work really hard at fostering relationships with adults and with peers. The success they feel here is critical to helping them reach their full potential.
My Project
My project will go towards having better group lessons! Our current group table is a small kitchen table I bought, attached to a small trapezoid shaped table. Although this allows the students to have their own personal space, it is hard to deliver a lesson. This arrangement does not best meet our students needs. During group lessons, the students need to have access to the instruction at all times, but the teacher has to walk around the students while teaching to assist the students and their individual needs.
A horseshoe table will allow my students to constantly interact during group lessons.
They have access to the materials and instruction during the entire lesson and I will be able to keep my students engaged.
