My students need a paper recycling kit, paper making kit, storage boxes, a paper beads kit, duct tape, a blender and crayon molds to learn about recycling and upcycling!

After reading The Lorax this year, my students are ready for lessons on recycling and how to make something new from old items!
My students range in ages from 3 to 9 years old (Pre-K to 2nd grade) with a variety of speech and language needs.
My caseload includes students with autism spectrum disorders, visual impairments, intellectual disabilities, articulation impairments, and specific language impairments. They are artists, story tellers, scientists and inventors. The students in this small, rural school are enthusiastic learners that love to play and learn!
My Project
Given what they have learned from The Lorax, my students know how important it is to recycle and protect our environment. Now they're ready to see it in action! The paper recycling and paper bead kits will show them how they can create new things we can use for the classroom out of items that may have been thrown away in the past. They will be able to use scrap paper and place it in the blender with water to create pulp for new paper. The paper making kit and storage containers will allow this pulp to be pressed into new paper. Once it is dry the students will be able to use it for new school projects! Old donated crayons will be melted and baked into new fun shaped crayons like Legos, letters and more! The crayon wrappers will be used to create new paper for the room! The decorative duct tape will be used to show the students how old items can be given new life through upcycling. They will be able to take old cereal boxes and create new book holders with fun designs!
This project will allow my students to extend their learning about recycling and it's importance when it comes to the environment.
They will learn a few of the ways they can take old items and create something with a new use!
