My Students

My students are very diverse and come from all walks of life. We have refugees from Africa and the Middle East together with Utah natives and everything between. Many students have been sick and many more have struggled to readjust to in person learning. They were online for nearly the whole school year last year and are now all back in the classroom, though Covid is making it difficult to keep them there.

My Project

These novels will be used to help build literacy, learn to analyze, and hopefully engage them so they continue reading into the future. Miles Morales by Jason Reynolds is a super hero story that involves facing life responsibilities and balancing school and life. The Graveyard Book is a Niel Gaiman classic. It blends horror, murder, the supernatural into a coming of age story about a boy named Nobody who lives in a graveyard with his guardian who is a vampire and the ghosts that are raising him. These are both tried and true books that students love. Some modern books could help break through to these kids and show them the joys of reading.
