Grasping Calculations With Graphing Calculators

My students need graphing calculators; the calculators will enrich their math experiences while preparing them for higher level math classes.

My Students

I have very fond and vivid memories of learning new approaches in order to tackle mathematical problems. It is my hope that, by introducing graphing calculators to my students, my students will be excited by the role that technology will play in their futures.

My school is located near the campus of a Big Ten University; because of our proximity to the university, many of my students come from homes where education is highly valued and expectations are equally high.

The school houses 4th - 6th grades and our population is very diverse. Teachers, students, and parents all work together to achieve goals in many areas of learning.

My Project

The graphing calculators, I am requesting, will provide an extension of activities which are presented in our math text. By extending these activities to include this form of technology, I am hopeful that the students' perspectives on the importance of the math they are learning will increase.

By using graphing calculators, I hope to broaden my students' knowledge base.

It is also my hope that my students will continue making connections between the knowledge they are acquiring and their ability to apply their knowledge base.
