Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

American culture is full of imaginary superheroes and villains. Students, as they get older, begin to learn that history is full of real-life heroes and villains. My classroom library is lacking in history books that highlight the incredible achievements (and follies) of these people. I would like to have these books to broaden my students' understanding of history while also holding their interest and keeping them reading in my classroom.

My students, especially struggling or reluctant readers, will often pick up a graphic novel because the pictures and visuals are more engaging and less intimidating than a typical book.

Students who read graphic novels often discover they enjoy reading, and begin to read more! The more they read, the better they get at reading, and the more they learn. In this case, they'll learn more about extraordinary people and historic events without realizing they're learning history. My students will love getting their hands on these exciting and historically accurate graphic novels.
