Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work at a Title 1 campus, and the majority of my students lack access to books in their homes. I do my best to supply them with a classroom library where they can grow to love reading. One of their favorite genres is graphic novels! I try my best to purchase what I can, but these books are much pricier than the chapter books I can afford. I have noticed that graphic novels not only keep my students more engaged, but they retell the stories back to me and do it with a smile on their faces.

I've chosen some of their favorite series of graphic novels that they can curl up with on my reading rug.

Some of them are not released yet, so they would be so excited to know they will be reading some newer books once they get released. I've also included a few books that they've shown interest in like joke books, scary stories, and The Guinness Book of World Records. I have the 2019 edition in my classroom, and my students enjoy reading the facts! I have independent reading time daily for twenty minutes, but Fridays are special because they get to buddy read! I would love your help in building my graphic novel corner in my classroom library, and I know my kiddos would love it too!
