My Project

Graphic novels can be a powerful tool for sparking students’ interest in reading. The combination of engaging illustrations, dialogue, and age-appropriate text can make reading feel more accessible and enjoyable, especially for students who may be hesitant or reluctant readers. Graphic novels allow students to use visual clues to support their understanding of vocabulary, characters, setting, and plot while still developing important reading skills.

Providing students with a variety of high-interest graphic novels gives them the opportunity to choose books that match their interests and reading levels.

When students are excited about what they are reading, they are more likely to read independently, read for longer periods of time, and develop positive reading habits. Graphic novels can also build students’ confidence by allowing them to experience success with completing books and demonstrating comprehension.

As students become more motivated to read, graphic novels can encourage them to read more frequently and explore other genres and formats. Increased reading volume and engagement can help students work toward their Accelerated Reader goals while strengthening fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and overall reading stamina. Ultimately, graphic novels can help create a classroom environment where reading is viewed not simply as an assignment, but as an enjoyable experience that students look forward to each day.

The graphic novels chosen will become part of our school wide Accelerated Reader carts we are trying to obtain. They will provide a variety of books/genres for students to choose from in order to reach their Accelerated Reader goals once we launch our Cougar Paws to Reading Success incentive program later this year.
