Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project would bring a number of high interest, newly published graphic novels written just for young children to our school library. The titles come from the prestigious Texas Little Maverick Graphic Reading List that is put together each year by the Texas Library Association.

Graphic novels are perfect for enticing students to read for fun while still building vocabulary and reading skills.

This genre has really taken off, and there are some wonderful new titles that are just right for our Pre-K and Kindergarten students. The almost comic book format encourages even our reluctant readers to pick up a book. And if we can get them excited early, we can set our students up to be true, lifelong readers.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
