Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are curious, creative, and deeply connected to their cultural roots, even if they don’t always feel confident using Spanish in an academic setting. They bring rich life experiences, strong oral language skills, and a desire to see themselves reflected in what they learn. What they need are engaging, accessible materials that meet them where they are and help them grow.

Spanish-language graphic novels will provide that bridge.

The combination of visuals and text makes reading more approachable, helping students build comprehension, expand vocabulary, and gain confidence as readers. These books also reflect their identities and experiences, which increases motivation and fosters a sense of pride in their heritage. By using these novels during independent reading, guided activities, and discussions, students will strengthen both their literacy skills and their connection to the Spanish language.
