Graphic Novels Are the Books to Read!

Help me give my students at all grade levels a wide variety of graphic novels. They are a popular genre in the library that I am seriously lacking.

My Students

I am the librarian at a Title One School with a very old collection. Many of my students do not get encouragement from home to be readers.

I work hard to encourage these students, many of them reluctant readers to get engaged in a book.

Graphic novels are a relatively new genre and so popular with the students. Graphic novels seem to be the way to reach them.

My collection is small enough I have to limit the students to one graphic novel a week which is fine for those students who enjoy regular chapter books but not for many of my students.

My Project

These will be available in the library for students to checkout on a weekly basis and take home and read.

Graphic novels are the most often checked out books.

The library is lacking in the number of graphic novels available for checkout and the students are limited in their choices. There are always holds on the popular books that I have and never enough to go around.

Also I have chose some graphic novels for younger readers too introduce them to this new genre and them some sport and science books to add to the variety.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
