I teach four sections of 10th grade English and two Creative Writing classes. My students all offer so much to my classroom, and grant me the opportunity to learn through them daily. They all live diverse lives with many stories, experiences, struggles, and life lessons to share. Some of these young souls have experienced way more in their 16 years on earth than I could ever imagine having to strive through. But yet they do. They still come to school. They still put forth effort. They still yearn to learn.
I could never place into words the admiration, gratitude, respect, or understanding I have for my students.
They continually amaze me, everyday. With all that they endure, they still walk through my classroom door, and return the smile that I give to them. They are imperfect teenagers, in an imperfect world. Through it all, my students are always pushing forward, gaining knowledge and understanding, of what it truly means to leave their mark on the world.
At the beginning of the school year, I began a collection of gently used clothes, hygiene products, and shoes to have accessible for students in need. Many students are not able to get the necessary items needed to ensure the confidence and comfort level warranted to complete a successful and productive day at school. So to ensure that students are afforded the necessities, the principal approved the creation of "Granby's Goodies", a clothes closet located inside of the school.
In this closet, we currently hold many clothes, shoes, belts, and other items which are beneficial to the students and free of cost.
This closet is accessed by teachers, assistant principals, and other faculty in order to assist students with their needs. I am in charge of the organization and inventory of the closet. The clothes rack and hangers will further help with this organization.
"Granby's Goodies" has been able to provide many students with some necessities that the student may not have been able to receive outside of the school. I love when we are able to assist with clothes needed for a job interview, shoes, or even hygiene products that students may not be able to get elsewhere. The clothes donations have been an abundance and are very appreciated, we just need to continue to keep them organized and easily accessible.
