My Students

My students are incredible, bright students that love to learn and have a growth mindset. We are striving to understand that reaching goals is achieved by hard work and perseverance.

Our parents value their children's education and work hard each day to make sure their students are showing up and reaching their goals.

STEAM activities are encouraged school-wide and there are many mediums for students to achieve their learning targets. The students are from a lower-income area and come to a school with a high percentage of reduced-price or free lunch, significantly higher than the state average of 61% which indicates a higher level of poverty.

The school has designed a fantastic program to promote reading through community efforts. Statistics have proven that reading on level by third grade has a terrific impact on the future of our students We are passionate that all students will leave our school having a love for literacy and all styles of learning.

My Project

Adjectives, adverbs, similes, metaphors, and idioms are all exciting terms to learn in the 6th grade. The creative writing that students begin to scribe after learning fun and interactive grammar leads to great growth in writing scores.

Understanding the differences between a complex declarative sentence and a simple compound sentence empowers students to be bolder with their sentence structures as writers.

With limited time in classroom instruction, the need for finding ways to teach these skills, that not only pull students in, but engage them, is difficult at best. Teachers Pay Teachers is a great resource to find lessons that have everything to not only teach, but engage, students in their grammar journey.
