The technology and tools we received help create learning spaces that match how students actually work in a classroom. The privacy folders allowed students to focus during independent work, assessments, and writing time by cutting down on distractions, which helped them build confidence and stamina. The solar system model and projector were especially powerful in science, giving students a way to see and interact with concepts that are otherwise abstract. Instead of just reading about space or watching a video, students were able to explore it hands-on, ask better questions, and make stronger connections.\r\n\r\nWhat excited students most was how interactive and real the learning felt. Watching the caterpillars grow and transform into butterflies was an unforgettable experience for our class. Students eagerly checked on them each day, recorded observations, and made predictions about what would happen next. The highlight was finally releasing the butterflies together- students were full of excitement, awe, and pride as they watched them fly away, knowing they had helped care for them from the very beginning. It was a joyful moment that made science feel meaningful and memorable.\r\n\r\nI've seen particular growth from students who previously struggled to stay engaged or felt unsure of themselves as learners. Some students who need movement were able to stay focused longer with the help of the chair bands, while others felt more confident working independently with the privacy folders. The new books- Maybe, Invisible, Each Tiny Spark, and Summer of the Monkeys- sparked thoughtful conversations and helped students see themselves reflected in stories. These resources helped create a classroom where students felt supported, capable, and excited to learn. Thank you so much for making that possible!","fullyFundedDate":1758207477634,"projectUrl":"project/reading-is-the-greatest-gift-you-can-giv/9535345/","projectTitle":"Reading is the Greatest Gift You Can Give!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Anderson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10111661"},{"teacherId":4825334,"projectId":9745426,"letterContent":"Thank you for the support of our \"We Are Starlings\" Project. This school wide initiative influences our community in so many positive ways. A stronger sense of school belonging correlates with higher student motivation and reduced risk behaviors. \r\n\r\nResearch on family engagement (Henderson & Mapp, 2002) shows that when families and schools share educational experiences, students' academic achievement and attitudes improve. Reading motivation increases when tied to social interaction and community goals (Guthrie & Wigfield, 2000). CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning) notes that literature rich in positive themes strengthens social-emotional learning. Uniting the school community around common texts, enhances literacy while deepening belonging, empathy, and resilience. \r\n\r\nI am profoundly grateful for the financial support of our academic goals.","fullyFundedDate":1758844672683,"projectUrl":"project/magical-mesmerizing-murmuration-we-ar/9745426/","projectTitle":"Magical Mesmerizing Murmuration: \"We Are Starlings\"","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Dewey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4825334_orig.jpg?crop=960,960,x320,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1571966087618","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4825334"},{"teacherId":4825334,"projectId":9488348,"letterContent":"Students at my Title 1 school have curiosity about the world around them. After a day of walking and observing, students return and use modeling clay to shape the animal of their choice. This requires them to focus on the animal in specific details and store that information in their working memory. When completed, they then have a tangible souvenir of their adventure in biology. It is even more significant in the struggling reader. Explicit systematic phonics instruction creates understanding of sound symbol correspondence that is needed to decode words. Rarely can these rules be mastered in a one-and-done exposure, rather repetition and review are required to until fluency emerges after a lot of work. Some students are slow to internalize the sounds, making phonics lessons difficult and for others they pick it up quickly and it becomes easy; too easy. \r\n\r\nKeeping students engaged and focused during phonics lessons is an on-going obstacle. Our wellness room staff hear repeated complaints about phonics from bored students. Needing to keep students focused, I am looking for various ways to grab their attention. Our project using the microphone and sound system gives students an incentive to complete their word construction and syllable mapping so they can use the \"echo\" setting on the microphone to share their work.
