Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my learning community are struggling as their educational setting continues to find new and effective methods to adapt the Common Core State Standards which continue to widen the gap between them, success, and learning. Currently, my school district is in the midst of implementing a new textbook and curriculum.
Fortunately for my students, they are part of a great school that cares, hopes for, and wants the best for them.
My students need a chance to prove themselves, and they need more opportunities that will help build their confidence and feelings of success. They need to be reminded that they can learn and that learning and school can be engaging and fun.
My Project
The materials I'm requesting will allow my students to explore new mediums that may be unfamiliar to them. With the gouache requested, students will be able to illustrate their writing projects, as we discuss new texts in class.
In my school, many students are English Learners who need all the help they can get if they are to be successful academics.
One form of learning support I value dearly in the classroom is the use of visual arts. The gouache paints requested here will allow my students to use the method of painting and illustrating to help them imagine their reading and writing, leading to stronger retention and comprehension.
