My Students

Our school is a PreK through eighth grade building that nearly 900 students call their home. Norfolk is home to the largest naval base in the world. Many of our families are part of the military, which means that many of our students have to deal with one, or even both, of their parents, being on deployment for long periods of time.

One of my biggest goals each year is to help my students become confident readers and maybe even develop a love for reading.

Many of my students come to me as struggling readers. Every year, I am impressed with how hard they are willing to work to fill in those gaps and see how much they grow.

Between my two classes, I teach reading, writing, and history to nearly 50 students, including students receiving special education services, English language learners, as well as gifted learners.

My hope is to provide the students with a safe and fun place to learn! Over the years, I have worked very hard at turning our classroom into our "Home Sweet Classroom!"

My Project

This year, schools are working harder than ever to keep our students healthy and safe. Every day we are wiping down desks throughout the day. We take several class bathroom breaks so the students can wash their hands. Hand sanitizer is also being used throughout the day.

The items in this project will be used in our classroom daily to help keep us safe.

Many of the students come to school without properly fitting masks or need a new one throughout the day. I have already gone through 100's of masks this year and am almost out. Earlier this week, our touchless soap dispenser broke. I would love to add a new one with more soap refills to our classroom.
