My Students

The city of Ilwaco has formed a committee to eradicate the Brazilian Elodea from our community lake. My 8th graders will provide monthly water quality data at the city council meetings. We are in desperate need of reliable materials to conducts these tests. This is an amazing opportunity for us.

My students are very excited to participate in a place based research project for the City of Ilwaco.

I teach science in a rural school district. I currently teach grade 7,8 and 9 at a middle-high school. My class sizes are as large as 34 and average at 30 students per class. Our population is declining and therefore our levy based budget is in crisis and teachers are asked to teach large classes of students. It is almost impossible to purchase new technology.

My Project

My students will be able to conduct water quality tests and make monthly finding reports to the City Council. This project will continue for 3-5 years and therefore students will have ample opportunities to consult with "real" scientists and be taught by them while monitoring changes over time.

This project is important because it will allow my students to blossom to their fullest potential, explore career possibilities and learn about how politicians make difficult decisions about complicated issues.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
