Our school is located in high poverty, rural community. My students love hands-on activities. They are very energetic and need to get up and get moving on a daily basis. As a teacher in a low-income district, I try to provide the best experiences for my students in the classroom as well as out of the classroom.
Many of our children live in single-parent households and receive a free or reduced-price lunch.
My students are young learners, so I try and make our classroom as warm and welcoming as possible and also provide a very rigorous learning environment for them. I want each and every one of them to have the best educational advantage a young learner can possibly have.
My Project
The TOON books will be a great addition to our classroom because these books will help to improve comprehension. Comic books help children understand concepts better because context can be visualized. A wall of words doesn't provide the same kind of luxury as comic books. Another reason why comic books are good for learning is that it increases vocabulary from just your basic basil reader. The comic books have action stories that the children enjoy reading.
With the intense visuals and how they focus on plot and character, comic books can be much more engaging than other literacy media, such as novels or short stories.
Comic books may also help children develop the reading skills required to comprehend texts with higher levels of difficulties.
