My Students

I teach in an extended resource room serving students with severe/profound needs. My students work on pre-academic skills: we spend a lot of time working on the ability to learn and follow directions and pay attention and even just communicating their needs.

This year, we opened up a brand new program in a brand new school!

My goal as a teacher and an advocate for my students is to give them the tools to be the best they can be, no matter what their needs may be. Each of my students brings something unique to our school!

My Project

Students need the opportunity to form neuro-pathways which support body focus, math, and reading. Students with many disabilities do not naturally engage the most critical paths in their brains. Our job is to meet their academic needs while providing neuro-informed interventions to activate alternate brain paths. By engaging balance and cross-mid-line activities, students will activate central pathways in their brains which are required for learning anything. These pedals and balance boards will provide critical opportunities to meet foundational needs for my students by engaging the areas of the brain that are responsible for health, stability, body focus, problem solving (math), and even reading!

Students who engage their brains on many levels are able to learn on all levels!

Not only will these items support learning, it will also provide for the most basic physical needs of our mobility-challenged students!
