Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

I work with an incredible group of students. Due to the pandemic, we are currently attempting to close the learning gaps. This means they are working extra hard to master previous grade-level standards as well as grade-level standards. This poses a challenge at times when they become frustrated, tired, unmotivated, or overwhelmed. So, at times misbehavior occurs.

To curve misbehavior my school uses PBIS.

Students have been rewarded points based on their showing RISE expectations (respect, integrity, safety, and empathy). On Fridays in my class students are able to shop at the class store using the points they have earned.

To show the students that I see their hard work, I would like to be able to provide big-ticket items for them to select from. Gift cards provide students with a bigger incentive to work harder. In addition, I selected gift cards for restaurants near our school. Lots of students expressed that they have not had the opportunity to visit the locations requested. So, it is a double win for those students. Amazon cards are requested because students have also requested to be able to purchase a book of their own. So those will also be added to the class store for students to use their points to purchase. I believe in rewarding students for positive behavior and hard work. These gift cards would definitely be a great addition to my classroom PBIS store. The glow items are for the monthly PBIS glow party. The spectrum books are requested to provide my students with plenty of practice to master the grade-level standards.
