My Students

My school is a second home for over 700 middle school students, over 70% qualify for a free or reduced lunch. Additionally, we have an extremely transient population; many students move from school to school within the district throughout the year. Occasionally, students experience being homeless.

As a school community we work hard to find a balance between privacy for the students and providing assistance to help them meet their basic needs.

Our students are vibrant, enthusiastic children that occasionally need extra help with basic needs to ensure they can be fully focused on their education.

My Project

Every child deserves the right to be able to succeed in their education, however, that can be hard when basic needs are not met. By creating a storage closet FULL of deodorant, shampoo, body wash, nail clippers, hand sanitizer, sanitary items and more, we can create a safe, private, resource within our school community for students whose basic needs are not met. Many of our students do not have access to these essential needs items; over 70% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch, and our district has a large number of students who experience being homeless. This distracts from them focusing in school and sometimes prevents them from coming to school. These resources will provide our students with the confidence they need to succeed.
