My Students
My students are a group of unique individuals that come from various backgrounds. They have a wide range of strengths and weaknesses. They are an extremely fun group of students who put a smile on my face every single day. I learn as much from them as they learn from me! My students are capable of so much and it's my job as their teacher to unlock that potential.
If I were to pick one word to describe my class as a whole group, I'd say "curious".
My students are all very eager to learn. Throughout the day, hands are constantly being raised with interesting and provoking questions attached. Often, I'm asked questions that I don't even know the answer to and I have to "Google" them before reporting back to the class. It truly warms my heart to see the blaze of curiosity within each one of them.
My Project
My current group of students are the most curious group of kids I've ever had the pleasure to work with. Throughout the day, multiple hands are raised with provoking questions that follow. I am often asked questions pertaining to our current lesson that I don't even know the answer to which requires me to "Google" them before reporting back to my class. Due to the fact that the technology in our classroom is very outdated, I use my phone to do this, which is clearly unprofessional. Our classroom consists of a total of 4 desktop computers and 4 iPads provided by the school. However, they are all reaching their limit. The 3 student desktop computers run extremely slow and have a tendency to freeze up, which causes us to reboot all of them due to the fact they are all connected. The iPads are very limiting because of a lock that was placed on them which prevents us from downloading new apps.
I want my students to take the wheel behind their curiosity into their own hands.
My goal with this project is to provide my students with an up to date device that will be shared in our classroom. A Microsoft Surface Go tablet with the keyboard accessory will be incredibly useful for both the students and myself. It will enable my students to pique their curiosity by having a proficient tool with which they themselves can search for the answers to their questions (as well as improve their typing skills). Having this tool in my classroom will enable me to assign my students in-class research projects as they all do not have access to technology at home. Technology is crucial in today's classrooms to propel student's forward and unlock their hidden potential.
