Give My Students the World!

Help me give my students the world. I teach World Geography and AP Human Geography. I am asking for some help in acquiring supplies that my students use on a regular basis and I often times buy myself.

My Students

I live in the area that I teach. I love the city of Roy because people are real. A lot of people are not familiar with Roy because it is mostly a bedroom community (We have a lot of houses but not much else). We are close to Hill Air Force Base and this greatly shapes our student population. We are also one of the more affordable areas as far as housing goes, so we see a lot of people moving into our school and quite a few moving out as well.

Covid-19 has had a huge impact on our world.

I teach World Geography to 9th graders. Many of my students have had little opportunity to travel. It is interesting to teach about the world around us when so few of my students have firsthand experience with other locations. Covid-19 has closed borders and limited travel in many ways.

My Project

My students struggle with what many people would consider simple things: being prepared with a pencil and paper, colored pencils, etc. I offer students these things as needed. The biggest expense is road atlases that I use for an assignment that teaches my students about traveling the United States as part of a road trip. I introduce them to the freeway and highway systems by using road atlases and then they take that knowledge to the next level using there assigned Chromebooks by creating a road trip of their own.

Many of my students have not traveled outside of Utah.

I remember being a student at the school that I now teach at and I know that the world has limitless possibilities. It is my responsibility to introduce my students to the bigger picture and help them be better global citizens as they become adults. Thank you for your consideration.
