This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Flexible seating gives students the chance to make choices during instruction time that enhance their comfort and ability to focus on lessons. My students frequently request to sit on the floor with a clipboard during work time both to be closer to a partner, or to work further away from other students so that they can focus more. I have noticed that my students are more engaged when they are comfortable while working and I find that flexible seating definitely helps facilitate this.

Many of my students enjoy finding their own 'space' in our classroom and flexible seating helps them achieve this.

The floor cushions will add comfort for when students choose to sit on the floor to work independently or with a partner. The sit spots will help students know where appropriate spaces in the classroom are to sit and work comfortably (and will hopefully help to mitigate any 'that's where I was going to sit!' or 'why can't I sit under the table?' situations). The stools will be an excellent addition to our collaborative working environments where students can choose to work in a larger group setting. I know my second graders will absolutely love having some variety added to their flexible seating options.

The second graders that I have the privilege of teaching are such creative, smart, funny, wonderful little people! They will love and appreciate this gift so much!
