Give Me a Beat!

My students need drums for daily music as well as for a D.R.U.M club that I would like to start.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

What do you do for children who have little opportunities.....you give them inspiration through music! I am an Elementary Music teacher at a Title 1 school. My students don't have many opportunities and can't afford to take music lessons. Help me provide them with numerous experiences in music that can help them feel successful when they might otherwise feel lost.

My students have many strikes against them. Their families have limited finances, and many of them are first generation Americans as their parents have immigrated from South America. In the classroom they face a culture and a language barrier, but in music they really excel! As a Title 1 school, we must focus on Reading and Math and thus there are limited resources for the arts. I have a chorus, but I feel that I am missing a whole student population who wants to be involved in music but would rather play an instrument. Their parents came to the United States with the hope of a better life; however, these children are struggling to adapt and make gains. Many of them feel lost and helpless in academics, but in music they soar.

To incorporate drumming in my every day lessons, I would need various African and Latin American Drums. In this proposal I am focusing on the larger African Tubano Drums.

You're donation WILL make a difference in these children's lives. Please help me to inspire these students to dream larger than the life they know. If I can give these students confidence in music through drumming, I feel they will gain that confidence in the classroom and outside in the community.
