This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 6th-grade students are filled with energy, curiosity, kindness, laughter, a pinch of laziness, and a bit of sassy. Our school is a low-income school in a low-income neighborhood where resources are scarce. The school does the best they can to provide all the necessary tools, but it never quite seems to be enough.

Many of my students' cultures promote learning through shared experiences with a tight-knit community, and it is my goal to replicate that in my classroom.

We have a diverse multicultural classroom with several English language learners and all students bring a unique perspective to the classroom. They deserve more than the bare minimum of resources. Our school has a strong focus on social-emotional learning and engaging all students in higher-order thinking opportunities.

My Project

Learning to be organized is one of the greatest skills a student can have. Getting into the habit of writing down important dates as well as recording homework assignments is critical for my 6th graders as they prepare for middle school. Planners are also great tools to keep casual contact with parents and allow them to keep track of their student's daily assignments.

Our school is unable to provide our students with planners, and in a neighborhood where it is a struggle for many families to supply basic materials; planners are a luxury they can not afford.

With your generosity I can supply this simple tool for them that will start every student on the right foot this school year.
