Help me give my students access to relevant literature that will serve as a mirror, window, and door with 3 copies of each of these books picked from the 2018-2020 ProjectLit Book Lists.
My students are an amazing group of young scholars from different backgrounds. I teach a class that is split between general education students and English Language Learners.
My class sizes range from 20-30 students in each, and I have a total of three classes.
My students love to read when they are exposed to relevant, engaging literature. They also have a strong desire to learn and change the world, which is why our class this year will be participating in the ProjectLit Community.
My Project
It is important and necessary to have a variety of literature for students to choose from that have meaning. The books students read must serve 3 purposes.
The books listed are all books recommended through the ProjectLit Community because they serve readers in these ways.
First, the students must see themselves in literature they are exposed to because representation is crucial for students. Additionally, the books that the students are exposed to should serve as a window in to the lives and experiences of people who are different from the reader. Finally, they serve as a door for students to jump start positive change.
