It is important and necessary to have a variety of literature for students to choose from that have meaning. The books students read must serve 3 purposes. The books listed are all books recommended through the ProjectLit Community because they serve readers in these ways. First, the students must see themselves in literature they are exposed to because representation is crucial for students. Additionally, the books that the students are exposed to should serve as a window in to the lives and experiences of people who are different from the reader. Finally, they serve as a door for students to jump start positive change.
