My students are full of energy and excitement. They come in each morning with a hug, high five or simply a big smile. They are eager to learn what is in store for them that day. Some of my students receive backpack food on the weekend. Some of my students were affected by hurricane Florence. Their houses were flooded or damaged by the strong winds and torrential rainfall. In spite of their hardships they are excited to learn and to do their best. They want to come to school each day because they are loved in this environment and they want to be successful one day.
My Project
My class is located in Tabor City, NC. at a Title One school. My students are eager to come to school each day and are excited to learn new things. The students are hard working and wonderful but at times lack basic supplies. After school started our year was interrupted by hurricane Florence. We missed 13 instructional days of school. This storm took a toll on our community. After returning to school we had to deal with many obstacles.
The supplies and classroom rug I am asking to be funded will enhance daily learning and help to engage students in the educational process.
If given the opportunity to have this rug in our classroom, I know we would use it daily during whole group and small group instruction. This would help my students get organized during carpet time and allow them a space of their own. I can already see the excitement and engagement that this will bring from my students.
The hardest thing that we deal with is lack of basic school supplies for the students and some teaching tools for the teachers. A lot of the construction paper we were allotted was damaged due to water damage due to a leaky roof. The carpet our students sit on is old and worn.
