Help me give my students 4 tents to teach them how to pitch a tent with the hope they will inspire their families to get out and experience nature, even if it's only in their own back yard.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Oh my goodness!! Where to begin... I have been teaching Physical Education for over 20 years. I am lucky to get to see every student in the school. My kiddos come to me ready to learn through movement, PLAY. My students make me laugh every day. Most days I have to dodge jokes about my hair, or lack of. I have a decent collection of wigs that students have donated to my cause. My students sometimes leave me in tears, knowing the situations they have to endure everyday. Like kids every where, they come to school with their hopes and fears, with their triumphs and their catastrophes, and every day they show up to my class ready to play.
My students are perfectly un-perfect, they're creative, they're silly and serious, they're compliant and oppositional, they love math or not, they can sing in key or "oh my goodness!!" They are us adults before we realized that we were expected be something.
Kids want to be everything. I tell my students all the time that I get to teach the best kids in the world, and they know I believe this to be true. My students bring me joy.
My Project
Children today are overly programmed and scheduled. Technology has sped up our existence to the point that we are losing our connection to nature. Sure we can watch a documentary on our TV or tablet, but there will never be a substitute to getting outside and experiencing nature. This year I am hosting an outdoor adventure club at my school. So far this year students have done geocaching, they have done archery, we did some disk golf, and the last unit we experienced was fishing.
Now, I'm new to DonorsChoose.org, so I have partially funded the previous adventures.
This semester we still have slack lining, rock climbing, orienteering and tent building to experience.
The tent building adventure will include a hike, across our campus to an unused grassy area where we will set up camp. Students will be able to bring fishing poles if they would like to fake-fish. After setting up camp we will have snack, and listen to the sounds of nature, on my computer of course, we live in the middle of the city. Students will guess what the sounds are. If students want to tell stories by the non-fire fire, that would be great. The goal is to get students away from technology and just be kids.
I believe that our kid's wellness is increasingly dependent on their ability to disconnect. Learning to get up, get out and enjoy mamma nature could be essential for their health and wellness. THANKS!!
