I have been able to design STEAM projects that relate to the books I am reading with students. The STEAM materials have added a hands on component to the books I am reading in the library. \r\n\r\nThe students have enjoyed using the materials to build and expand their knowledge of topics related to books. These have included designing and building structures, fashion design with the fashion plates, creative writing and drawing using the drawing tablets, and creating characters and building designs with Blockaroo and Picasso blocks. \r\n\r\nThe next lesson that I am planning on teaching is on architecture. The 3rd-5th grade students will be using the Art-chitect set to create blue prints using scale and measuring tools, learn about architectural graphic symbols and incorporate these symbols to represent elements like doors, windows and walls. Students will be learning about the structure of a house, interior design & decorating.\r\nThank you so much for contributing to the fun in learning for my students!","fullyFundedDate":1744923863918,"projectUrl":"project/makers-in-the-library-building-creatin/9113381/","projectTitle":"Makers in the Library: Building, Creating, Learning!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Brenda","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9923381"},{"teacherId":9063944,"projectId":9528097,"letterContent":"The colorful stools have brought so much excitement and energy into our art room! Thanks to your support, I was able to provide 27 students with a brand-new set of headphones for their school year. What a fabulous way to get their year started off right! What is even more exciting is that the headphones came with a speaker and are incredibly soft on their little delicate ears. \r\nThis year I have a group of 27 students. Our district, just this year, implemented a new literacy program which requires headphones with a speaker, but the district would not provide new headphones. Instead, teachers were expected to use the older set or sets that we had been provided in years past, but there were many that were broken. Little kiddos are still learning how to be gentle and take care of their headphones, but they usually do not last more than a year. Kids transfer from classroom to classroom and cords get twisted, stepped on or accidentally broken. \r\nWorking on our BOY, beginning of the year testing, was difficult. Many students were frustrated, teachers were frustrated, and many had to share headphones. I am so thankful that my classroom and these students did not experience this frustration and angst during their first few weeks of school. Instead, students were able to vote on and choose a color of their choose. This created buy in, accountability, and responsibility. I read and students listened too the book, Headphones on Strike, by Mary Nhin. This is a silly book that shows all the ways headphones can be abused and teaches young learners what not to do, and how to use and store their headphones. I was able to purchase a show holder that I hang from a door. Each slot is numbered and students were assigned a number and slot. This is where they store their headphones so cords will not get tangled and the ear pieces will not break while being shoved in a desk. \r\nNot only do the students use their new and colored headphones for their work, but they also get to use them for pleasure. Students enjoy the learning games – both in reading and in math – that have music and speaking. They enjoy listening to calm music while working. Many of these students come from a low-income status and their families might not be able to afford new or nice headphones. Because of your amazing donation, each student was able to start their school year with a calm confidence. Not only did the students benefit, but so did I. I appreciate that I did not have some of the stressors that other teachers experienced. This was incredibly beneficial to the mental and physical health of the students as well as myself. \r\nYour generosity helped students get their school year started without a hitch or hiccup. You are appreciated more than I can express. I appreciate each and every person who, not only donate to my project, but thank you for supporting teachers everywhere.","fullyFundedDate":1752236817305,"projectUrl":"project/headphones-for-the-win/9423658/","projectTitle":"Headphones for the Win!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kelsie","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7106578_orig.jpg?crop=3088,3088,x0,y530&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1722009305176","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7106578"},{"teacherId":9009428,"projectId":9362334,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support. They really have added to each classroom environment around the school and created a fun playful addition to each class. All the students, every day, ask who gets to take the \"class pet\" home for the day, and they get excited to share what they do with them when they take them home. Each classroom has their own binder that has a collection of student stories in it for when they take home the pig. This has helped develop students' writing skills as a whole school. They get excited to share their stories and they even get to read them on the morning announcements. Even after all the binders are complete with writing samples and \"adventures\" with each class pig, the adventures will continue on and students have completely bought into having a \"class pet\", even if it is just a toy pig. Each class has a unique name for their pig and students even relate the pig to the one in our book for One School One book with 'Charlotte's Web' by comparing the pig and the stories in the book and the ones they create.
